The American College of
Foot & Ankle Orthopedics & Medicine (ACFAOM) and the
American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary
Podiatric Medicine (ABPOPPM) have jointly established a
program to encourage students to form ACFAOM "clubs or
chapters," or to reinvigorate existing chapters, on each
campus, to emphasize the importance of orthopedics and
medicine in the contemporary practice of podiatry. As
surgery will account for a maximum of only 20% of the time
spent when in practice, students need to recognize that
orthopedics and medicine will require most of their
practice time. ACFAOM is the College that represents the
orthopedics and medicine side of practice in the same way
that the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS)
represents the surgical side of practice. Each College
has a sister organization that certifies competence in
these two sub-specialty areas; ABPOPPM for orthopedics and
medicine, and the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS)
for surgery.
There are two aspects to
this program: 1) $200 annual support for each club for its
use, and 2) a $2,000 scholarship for a student at each
school each year. For a Request for Funding From for
