ACFAOM 2014 Annual Clinical Conference

ACFAOM’s new educational format – a resounding success!

The new approach to continuing podiatric education introduced at ACFAOM 2014 in early June was unanimously endorsed by the approximately 150 DPMs who attended throughout the 3-day event as a much more effective and exciting way to educate practitioners.

The focus of the conference (June 5-8; Alexandria, VA; 26 CMEs) was on Biomechanics, Wound Care, Medicine, Imaging, and the Business of Practice. But instead of the usual lectures and workshops, all sessions were based on real cases with national experts to guide the education and encourage the attendees to voice clinical opinions in an interactive format. Attendees sat seven to each round table to allow group discussion and collaboration on cases. This approach even gave attendees an opportunity to argue with the faculty! There was nothing passive about the education at this conference. And the optional workshop on Billing & Coding on Sunday morning drew 40 DPMs.

In addition to the interactive sessions, sponsoring companies hosted all breakfasts, lunches, and receptions, with speakers including Dr. Warren Joseph (Onychomycosis Update), Mr. Jason Kraus (Podiatry Reimagined), Dr. Jeff Frenchman (Clinical Evidence and Limb Salvage), and Dr. Eric Bornstein (Next Generation Laser Technology for Onychomycosis Therapy).
